Violations Detected Again in the Meat Market

The Food Safety Inspection Body of Armenia has been conducting veterinary epidemiological monitoring as part of its efforts to enforce mandatory norms for slaughterhouse meat. Today, early in the morning, inspectors carried out surprise checks at the meat stalls on Khorenatsi Street in Yerevan, adjacent to the GUM market. The purpose of the inspections was to monitor the origin of the meat supplied, the conditions of meat transportation, and the compliance with sanitary and hygienic norms at the stalls.

Inspection body experts visited 9 operating stalls at that time and checked veterinary documents accompanying the meat received. Violations were registered at all 9 operators. Only one of the operators had a veterinary document No. 5 certifying the slaughterhouse origin of the meat. In several locations, meat was transported in vehicles that did not comply with sanitary and hygienic standards or other established norms, and employees at two stalls did not have sanitary permits.

Protocols have been drawn up, which will lead to investigations with consequences that may involve specific administrative responsibility. It is noteworthy that the requirement for slaughterhouse meat has been mandatory throughout the republic since July 1, 2020, meaning that compliance with this norm will remain a priority for the Food Safety Inspection Body as part of its operations.
