My Father Has Passed Away: Mikael Melkumyan
On July 17, 2023, at the age of 89, Sergey Melkumyan, an academician of the International Ecology Academy, doctor of science, and professor, passed away. This was announced by Mikael Melkumyan, a member of the parliamentary faction of the Prosperous Armenia Party, on his Facebook page.
“Today, my father, Sergey Avanes Melkumyan, passed away at the age of 89. Rest in peace, dear father,” he stated.
Sergey Melkumyan was born on November 10, 1931, in the village of Chartar in Artsakh. He graduated from the Geography Faculty of Yerevan State University in 1956. In the following years, he worked in various economic and scientific institutions in Armenia and led the Economic Geography Department at the Armenian State University of Economics for many years.
Melkumyan authored over 400 scientific works, including 35 monographs. Since 1991, he founded and headed the public-political organization “Artsakh-Armenia.”
Sergey Melkumyan's memory will always remain bright in the hearts of his relatives, friends, and acquaintances. The funeral service will be held on July 19, 2023, at 18:00 at the Church of St. John the Baptist in Kond, with the burial ceremony following on July 20 at 13:00 from the same location.
