Citizen Offers Loan on Facebook and Requests Passport Scan: Gevorg Hayrapetyan

During a press conference on the topic of “How to Protect Personal Data Online and Avoid Becoming a Victim of Phishing,” the head of the Personal Data Protection Agency, Gevorg Hayrapetyan, noted that more cases are being opened, including criminal cases.

“There is even a criminal case where a 27-year-old citizen wrote on Facebook, stating that they are offering a loan and asked if the passport could be sent scanned. In some cases, they were able to obtain a loan. This means that people trusted them without verifying who they were and what organization they represented; they provided their sensitive information and became victims of identity theft,” Hayrapetyan explained.
