Attention: Attempts to Steal Personal Profiles on Facebook Have Intensified - Tigran Matinyan

Social media expert Tigran Matinyan wrote on his Facebook page:

“Attention: Attempts to steal personal profiles (phishing) on #Facebook have intensified. I've already come across several cases of this type since this morning.

How does the mechanism work?

1. A fake website that closely resembles the Facebook Login page is created.
2. A page is created on Facebook with misleading names like “Safety,” “Security,” etc.
3. They post on their page tagging various business accounts, with content that typically reads: “Your XXXX page has been reported by another user. If you are the owner of this page, please click on the link to confirm.”
4. When you click the link, the aforementioned fake website opens (the image is attached to the post).
5. You think you are on Facebook and willingly provide your username and password.

Judging by the semi-literate texts of today’s active campaign, I can assume that it is organized from outside of Armenia.

What to do:

1. Do not trust such posts. Facebook never sends such notifications.
2. Do not click on suspicious links.
3. Do not enter your username and password without checking the website URL to ensure you are on the site you intended to visit.
4. If you have filled it out, quickly change your password. (If you use the same password elsewhere, change those as well.)
5. Activate two-factor authentication on your personal profile so that even if someone knows your password, they cannot access your account without having access to your phone number.
