Official Data Shows Annual Inflation at Only 1.2% with Decline in Meat and Vegetables
The newspaper "Joghovurd" reports that according to official data, the annual inflation rate in Armenia's consumer market has reached only 1.2%, with a recorded deflation of 0.1% compared to the previous month.
In May of this year, compared to the same period last year, there was an 11.9% increase in alcoholic beverages and a 10.4% increase in tobacco products.
However, in comparison to April, tobacco prices increased by 0.8% and alcoholic beverages saw a rise of 1.9% in May. Conversely, prices for food products and non-alcoholic beverages decreased slightly by 0.2% compared to April.
The vegetable market experienced a recorded price drop of 5%. Prices for meat and poultry have also decreased; for example, in the meat market, there was a 0.3% deflation in May compared to April, while poultry prices fell by 3.6% within a month.
The newspaper received information from the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia that the situation is the opposite in the dairy, cheese, and egg markets, where inflation has been recorded at a rate of 0.4%. Only the price of eggs increased by 1.5% in May compared to April. Additionally, sugar prices rose by 0.3%.
