Arman Sahakyan Accused of Abuse of Official Powers
Arman Sahakyan, son of former National Assembly President Galust Sahakyan, is being accused under Article 308, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia for the abuse of official powers, resulting in severe consequences, as confirmed by Rima Yeganyan, acting head of the information and public relations division of the RA Investigative Committee, in response to a query from "Armenian Time."
According to her, a bail of 5 million AMD has been imposed as a measure of restraint against him. It was noted that on May 29, it became known that Arman Sahakyan had been involved as a defendant in a criminal case related to the sale of a land plot adjacent to one of the schools in Yerevan, along with several other individuals.
Sahakyan's lawyer, Emin Khachatryan, addressed the decision to involve him as a defendant on his Facebook page, stating that it is obviously unfounded. "Due to the secrecy of the preliminary investigation, I cannot disclose the content of the accusation and the factual circumstances, but I can affirm that these have no relation to reality. Moreover, considering the current political realities and developments, I believe it also has a political subtext, from which it can be concluded that expecting a complete, multifaceted, and objective investigation in this criminal case is sheer naivety. There is not only a lack of grounds for involving Arman Sahakyan as a defendant based on sufficient evidence indicating his commission of the alleged crime, but furthermore, the investigator has not acquired any evidence suggesting that Arman Sahakyan committed the alleged criminal act attributed to him," the lawyer wrote.
Arman Sahakyan served as the head of the State Property Management Department under the Government from 2011 to 2018.
