All Prisons in Armenia Join New Food Supply System from Today
In November of last year, following the pilot program for the new food supply system implemented in the ‘Armavir’ and ‘Nubarashen’ penal institutions, I participated in a food tasting with journalists. I noted that nearly 100% of individuals detained in these facilities benefit from this food service. I announced that by the end of 2021, the food supply function for all correctional institutions would be delegated to the private sector.
This was stated by Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan on his Facebook page, adding, “Today that promise has come true, and I can confirm that all 12 correctional institutions in Armenia have joined this system as of June 1. It is even unnecessary to mention the multiplicative results it yields, such as reducing the number of food delivery items and alleviating concerns for the families of those held in correctional facilities.”
The minister also reported that reforms in the prisons are ongoing.
