Turkey Takes Another Step in Denying Justice: Armenian Ambassador in Czech Republic

The Armenian Ambassador to Czech Republic, Ashot Hovakimyan, commented on the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs' statement regarding the resolution passed by the Czech Parliament's Senate:

“This is not the first and will not be the last official response from Turkey to the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Turkey is taking another step in denying justice, further deepening the gap between itself and universal values. Denialism has no future, regardless of how it is packaged. The more the Turkish authorities strive to deny the truth, the more the truth paves its way and becomes public knowledge.

On the famous Charles Bridge in Prague stands a statue created in 1714 by sculptor Ferdinand Maximilian Brokoff, dedicated to the sanctified knights who saved Christian captives from the hands of the Ottomans during the Middle Ages. Beneath the knights’ statues is also a well-known sculpture of an armed Turk, guarding the Christians suffering in prison. This sculpture has become the subject of many local tales and conversations; tourists are said to be warned to be cautious when passing by it at night, or parents would scare their children by saying that if they do not sleep, the Turk will come and take them away.

I regret that in 300 years, not much has changed, and even today Turkey speaks in the language of threats.”
