Eight Villages in Kotayk Province Left Without Electricity Due to Wind and Rain
In the village of Kamaris in Kotayk Province, residents are still assessing the damage caused by the wind two days ago. In an interview with NEWS.am, village head Gor Hakobyan noted that heavy rain followed the strong winds, making it difficult to carry out any work.
“Part of the roof of a nearby house was damaged, as well as the barn and production areas. We are still calculating the damages. After the wind, heavy rain started, and as a result, about eight villages have been without electricity since yesterday. We are searching for the cause; we still do not understand what it is. Because of this, we haven't been able to send our damage assessment to the regional administration,” he said, mentioning that residents have restored the roofs of their damaged houses with their own efforts.
The village head also pointed out that many buildings suffered minor damage from the wind. Earlier, it was reported that on May 6 at 17:51, the Crisis Management National Center received information that part of the roof of a house on the first street of Kamaris village was torn off by the wind and fell onto a parked car. A firefighting and rescue unit from the regional rescue department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations was dispatched to the scene.
It was discovered that approximately 40 square meters of the roof covering at house number 76 had been damaged, along with the engine cover of a parked VAZ-2107 car. The roof covering of house number 74 suffered about 8 square meters of damage, around 7 square meters from the roof of house number 2 on the third alley of the first street, about 5 square meters from the roof of house number 4, and the roof of the veterinary farm located on the Central Street was also damaged (100 square meters).
