Food Prices Increased in April Compared to March
In April of this year, there was a 1.8% increase in food prices compared to the previous month. This rise has been attributed to the price increases of several food items.
In April 2020, compared to March, the price of butter rose by 2.9%, sunflower oil by 3.8%, flour by 4.0%, rice by 4.2%, peas by 6%, pasta by 6.1%, and lentils by 27.3%.
Within a month's time, the prices of cereals increased by an average of 13.5%, including oatmeal by 6.5% and buckwheat by 19.3%.
In April of this year, compared to April 2019, fruits became more expensive by an average of 9.2%, while compared to March 2020, the increase was 8.3%.
In April 2020, there was a 7.4% increase in the sugar and sweetener category, with sugar itself rising by 9%.
The dairy, cheese, and egg category saw a 4.2% increase in prices within the month, with egg prices jumping by 19.8% in just one month.
April 2020 recorded a 1% increase in alcoholic beverages and a 2% rise in tobacco products compared to March.
The only sector where no price increase was recorded was vegetables. Agricultural products simply did not reach the market due to the state of emergency, making it difficult for goods to be sold or to reach the market. As a result, vegetable prices dropped, leading to significant losses for farmers.
