The Stronger the Diaspora, The Stronger Armenia: A Common Myth, Says Arman Yeghoyan
A common myth exists in Armenia regarding the relationship between the diaspora and our nation. It is often said, 'The stronger the diaspora, the stronger Armenia.' This statement was made by Arman Yeghoyan, a member of the ruling 'Civil Contract' party, during a discussion on August 17 at the National Assembly regarding the election of the head of the Standing Committee on Education, Science, Culture, Diaspora, Youth, and Sports.
According to Yeghoyan, the opposite principle also applies. 'This is a complete lie, a myth, because by definition, the diaspora can only strengthen over time due to new waves of emigration from Armenia or waves of immigration from other diaspora communities,' he stated.
The parliamentarian claimed that the Armenian diaspora has never grown stronger through natural generational turnover regardless of their country. 'Such a thing has never occurred throughout history,' he clarified.
