Georgia Extends Ban on Regular Air Travel Until May 22
Georgia has extended the ban on regular air travel in all directions until May 22, 2020, coinciding with the end of the state of emergency, as announced by the Civil Aviation Agency today.
The decision regarding the resumption of air connections will be made based on the epidemiological situation in Georgia and worldwide, taking into account consultations with the Ministry of Health, the agency reported.
The agency has already informed airlines about this decision, as reported by Novosti-Georgia.
“We urge citizens to refrain from purchasing tickets to any destination until an official date for the resumption of regular air travel is announced by official sources,” the agency’s statement noted.
The first case of coronavirus in Georgia was recorded on February 26. In an effort to prevent the spread of the virus, Georgia closed its borders, including regular air travel, on March 18. Since then, only charter flights have been conducted.
Starting March 21, the authorities declared a state of emergency, which Parliament has today extended until May 22.
