Admission Deadline for Universities to Be Extended
The deadline for applications for admission to Armenian universities will be extended due to the state of emergency. This was announced by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Arayik Harutyunyan, in response to a question from Lilit Stepanyan, a member of the 'My Step' parliamentary faction.
Stepanyan noted that most students in their final year have not had the chance to complete their university applications. Harutyunyan recalled that this matter was discussed earlier today with the Prime Minister. Several decisions have been made, though the minister did not disclose them. He explained that the reason for not announcing them at this time is related to the development of several systems and, consequently, the timelines involved.
“However, all actions will be carried out for the benefit of the students. Specifically, regarding the raised issue, we have a solution. We will extend the deadline and provide the opportunity for applications to be adjusted, allowing those who have not had the chance to apply, or have changed their intentions for university admission due to the coronavirus, to make changes. In other words, we will allow students, as well as those who graduated a while ago and wish to enter university, to apply and participate in the process,” said the minister.
The Armenian government decided during an extraordinary session on April 14 to extend the state of emergency declared on March 16, 2020, until 5:00 PM on May 14, 2020, for 30 days. The country is currently under a strict regime of restrictions.
