Changes in the Process of Issuing Driving Licenses
A number of changes have been made with the adoption of the draft government decision titled "On Establishing the Procedure for Conducting Examinations to Obtain a Driver's License and Granting a Driver's License, the List of Documents Required for Obtaining a Driver's License, the Forms and Descriptions of National Driving Licenses, and Annulling the Government Decision No. 1158-N of September 18, 2008 of the Republic of Armenia." This was reported by the Public Relations and Information Department of the Armenian Police.
According to the changes, alongside the Armenian language, theoretical examinations are to be conducted in English, Russian, Persian, and Arabic as well. The knowledge verification test has been expanded from 10 questions to 20 questions, and the examination duration has been extended from 15 minutes to 30 minutes.
Vehicles used for practical skill assessment must be equipped with appropriate devices for sound and video recording as well as archiving the recorded content. An "AM" driver's license is set to be issued for moped operation.
For practical examinations, category "A", "AM", "A1", and "B1" tests will be held only in driving ranges or open driving areas, and if those are unavailable, under real conditions on public roads or streets until 2027. For category "B", tests will be conducted solely under real conditions. Categories "C", "D", "BE", "CE", and "DE" along with subcategories "C1", "D1", "C1E", and "D1E" will be conducted in both driving ranges and under real traffic conditions, and until 2027, tests in bodies without a track or driving area will only occur under real conditions.
Employees of testing bodies conducting practical qualification tests will undergo relevant training every two years for 4 days, and every five years for 5 days. The specified changes will come into effect six months later.
