Ten Newborns Infected with Coronavirus in Romanian Maternity Hospital: Gulf News
Ten newborns have tested positive for coronavirus in a maternity hospital in Romania, according to Gulf News. It is believed that the children contracted the virus from the medical staff.
“The mothers' tests came back negative, but the newborns tested positive, so we need to understand their contacts with the medical personnel,” said Health Minister Nelu Tătaru in an interview with Antena 3 television.
The children show no symptoms and all, except for one, have self-isolated at home with their mothers, the country's health minister reported.
The World Health Organization declared the novel coronavirus a pandemic on March 11. According to the latest data, there have been 1,431,973 cases of infection worldwide, with 82,096 resulting in death, and 302,209 people have recovered.
The outbreak has spread to 209 countries outside the borders of China.
