Record Death Toll in Italy: 250 Victims in One Day
Italy has reported a record number of deaths due to the coronavirus in a single day. On this day, the virus claimed the lives of 250 people, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 1,266. This was announced by Angelo Borrelli, the head of the Civil Protection Department.
Since the outbreak of the coronavirus in Italy, the total number of infected individuals has reached 17,660, with 14,955 currently receiving treatment and 1,439 having recovered.
The average age of the victims exceeds 80 years old. The rate of transmission of the virus continues to remain high. According to experts, approximately 20 percent of the global coronavirus fatalities are attributed to Italy.
The outbreak in the country began on February 21.
