A Woman Appointed as Speaker of Azerbaijan's Parliament

The ruling party in Azerbaijan, led by President Ilham Aliyev, has elected a woman as the new Speaker of Parliament. The position has been entrusted to Sahiba Gafarova. This was reported by Azerbaijani media.

Gafarova was born in 1965 (55 years old). She is a philologist by education, having studied at Azerbaijani universities during the Soviet era, and has also taught literature and languages. She has served as a member of the 5th convocation of the Azerbaijani Parliament and as a delegate in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
