Armenian Journalist Receives Award from U.S. Secretary of State and First Lady
Armenian journalist Lucy Kocharyan was among the few who received the 2020 "Bravely Women" award from the U.S. Department of State. The award was presented personally by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and First Lady Melania Trump, a move highlighting the importance of the award, reports the Voice of America.
In his speech, Secretary Pompeo emphasized that all the women receiving the award symbolize courage, inspiring others: "You are doing work that is of the utmost importance to our families, our countries, and our world."
The First Lady began her opening remarks by stating, "I am proud to stand beside these women. The women gathered here represent the power of the female spirit. Each of them has exhibited exceptional qualities of bravery and leadership, often at great personal risk."
Lucy Kocharyan is the journalist who published stories of Armenian women who have suffered violence on her Facebook page.
