WHO expresses concern: Production of protective equipment must be increased
The World Health Organization (WHO) is concerned that the lack of protective items due to the spread of coronavirus threatens lives, and has urged manufacturers to increase the production of medical masks and gloves by 40%. This was stated in a press release by the WHO.
The organization has calculated that approximately 89 million medical masks, around 76 million pairs of medical gloves, and 1.6 million protective goggles are needed every month to fight the coronavirus.
“Without guaranteed supply chains, workers in the global health sector will be at risk. Governments need to act swiftly by increasing supply volumes, relaxing export restrictions, and taking local measures to put an end to speculation,” said the WHO Director-General.
