Karo Paylan Nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

The head of the International Union of Hamshen Armenians, Saida Ohanyan, who is also a member of the Parliament of Western Armenia, has submitted a proposal to the Nobel Committee to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Karo Paylan, a member of the Turkish Parliament representing the Armenian community, according to Ermenihaber.

The organization describes Karo Paylan as a person who has dedicated his entire life to defending the rights of Armenians and indigenous peoples of the Greater Middle East, including Western Armenia, Syria, Iraq, and other native peoples of Turkey.

“Today, he is one of the few who has taken on the responsibility to protect humanitarian values, the rights of indigenous peoples, and national and religious minorities. Having roots from the Malatya region of Western Armenia and being a descendant of Armenian families who survived the Armenian Genocide from 1894-1923, he is personally aware of the horrific consequences of this crime against humanity, recognized and condemned by all leading countries in Europe and America, the European Parliament, as well as many influential international and religious organizations,” the application states.

The Hamshen Union has called on all people of good will, as well as all organizations and unions that defend human rights, to join their initiative and raise their voices in support of Karo Paylan. It is worth noting that this is the second time Karo Paylan has been nominated for a Nobel Prize by the aforementioned organization.
