Azerbaijani Hysteria: Another Manifestation, Says Mkheer Hayerpetian
The Chairman of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth, and Sport of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Mkheer Hayerpetian, held a phone conversation with Eleni Theocharous, a former Member of the European Parliament wanted by Azerbaijan, expressing his support for her.
Hayerpetian announced this on his Facebook page. “The Azerbaijani authorities have appealed to the government of Cyprus to arrest and extradite the true friend of the Armenian people, former Member of the European Parliament Eleni Theocharous. It is evident that we are dealing with yet another manifestation of Azerbaijani hysteria, familiar to us already; since 2015, official Baku has repeatedly requested Interpol to arrest the Cypriot figure who visited Artsakh but has been denied each time,” he noted.
“As the head of the Armenia-Cyprus inter-parliamentary committee, I thoroughly discussed the created situation with my Cypriot counterpart, Nikos Tornaridis. I then had a phone call with Ms. Theocharous herself and expressed my support to her. Such principled, truth-seeking political figures who are never afraid of difficulties serve as a good example not only for their own country but also for other nations. As for Azerbaijan, they should remember that miserable attempts to distract society from internal issues will yield no results in the long run,” Hayerpetian stated.
