«Փաստ». Why Has Pashinyan Not Attended Davos?
«Փաստ» newspaper reports that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has declined to participate in the annual economic forum taking place in Davos. Instead, President Armen Sarkissian has traveled to Davos.
Armenia first participated in the Davos forum in 2000, led by the country's second president, Robert Kocharyan, who held several important meetings with leaders from various countries. The next presence of an Armenian delegation in Davos was in 2009 under the leadership of Serzh Sargsyan. During that visit, Sargsyan met with Vladimir Putin, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and leaders from other countries, as well as representatives of major organizations.
In 2018, Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan also attended Davos, having a rather busy agenda. Nikol Pashinyan participated in the 2019 forum.
According to our sources, Pashinyan did not travel to Davos this year because they were unable to prepare a series of meetings at the appropriate level, as well as not securing a platform for a speech. The source also expressed that Pashinyan may be experiencing internal unease related to the general tense atmosphere within the country.
