Citizens Voluntarily Surrender Weapons and Ammunition

Thanks to the explanatory work of the officers of the Hrazdan Police Department, on January 16, a 53-year-old resident of Hrazdan voluntarily surrendered an unregistered "Kalashnikov" assault rifle and 31 rounds of 5.45 mm ammunition. He reported that the weapon belonged to him and had been kept on the roof of a barn.

As a result of the explanatory efforts of the officers of the Vardenis Police Department, a 54-year-old resident of the village of Tsovak, Gegharkunik Province, also voluntarily surrendered a homemade shotgun, an "F-1" type grenade, and over 130 rounds of ammunition of various calibers on January 16. According to him, the weapons and ammunition belonged to his deceased father and were found while cleaning an adjacent building.

On the same day, a case of voluntary surrender of illegally held weapons and ammunition was registered at the Aparan Police Department. A resident of Aparan brought a homemade revolver, magazines for an assault rifle, and more than 100 rounds of ammunition of various calibers to the department. He claimed that these items were his and had been stored in an adjacent building to a barn.

Forensic examinations have been appointed. It is noteworthy that those who voluntarily surrender illegally held weapons and ammunition are exempt from criminal liability.
