What is the Allowed Transparency Level for Car Windshields?

Recently, the police press service issued a statement announcing that reports related to tinted windshields will no longer be dismissed. Previously, if a traffic officer informed a violator about the possibility of avoiding administrative liability by immediately correcting the violation, and the violator promptly removed the tint or corrected the breach of the allowed transparency level, the report would be dismissed, and the citizen would be free from administrative responsibility.

However, now, if a traffic officer encounters a car with a tinted windshield or a violation of the allowed level of transparency, the citizen will still be subjected to administrative liability even if they rectify the violation on the spot.

According to the Armenian government’s regulation No. 289-N dated February 24, 2005, the transparency of vehicle windshields must be no less than 75% for front windows, and no less than 70% for front side windows (if present) and other windows. In cases where there are two rear-view mirrors, other windows can have a transparency lower than 70%.

It should also be noted that under Article 123, Part 4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Armenia, driving a vehicle with a violation of the transparency level or with a tinted front windshield results in a fine set at twenty-five times the minimum wage (25,000 dram).
