Firewood-laden Vehicles Unjustly Held by Police, Says Shirak Center NGO
The president of the Shirak Center NGO, Vahan Tumasyan, has appealed to the authorities of Armenia, members of the National Assembly, and the police. He expressed concern regarding a firewood-laden vehicle that has once again been taken to the police department in Bazum, Vanadzor.
“All the necessary documents for the legal acquisition of the firewood are available. Every day, hundreds of extremely poor people, frightened by the threat of freezing, lone elderly individuals seeking shelter in shacks, and families with young children are pleading for firewood. Yet our vehicles laden with firewood are unjustly being held by the police. I urge you to either explain to the police not to obstruct the import of firewood or we will be forced to abandon the program that provides firewood to families sheltered in shacks for the winter,” he stated.
