Car Re-exports Have Negatively Affected Economic Growth Indicators, Tunyan Responds
Member of the National Assembly from the "My Step" faction Babken Tunyan made the following post on his Facebook page: "I hear an economist talking, saying: 'One shouldn't be too happy about a 7.5% economic growth, because a very large role in that is played by car re-exports.' So, the economist should know that car re-exports have not improved but rather negatively affected the economic growth indicator. The reason is that car imports are fully recorded (the cars are cleared through customs), but re-exports are not recorded; they are taken away with Armenian license plates. As a result, the pure export figure deteriorates, which in turn lowers the GDP figure. If re-exports were recorded, the GDP growth figure would be much higher."
