Inmate Pretended to Feel Ill, Escaped Cell, and Stabbed Another Inmate: Investigative Committee

The investigation into the attempted murder by an inmate at a correctional facility has concluded at the Shirak regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee. According to the RA Investigative Committee, the incident occurred on May 19, 2019, around 10:40 AM, when one of the inmates of the 'Artik' penitentiary pretended to feel ill and requested assistance from a guard. Unexpectedly, he then ran out of his cell and entered the cell of another inmate in the same block, intending to unlawfully take the life of the latter, using a cutting and stabbing tool on him. However, due to the resistance from the guards, he was unable to complete the crime.

Based on the collected sufficient evidence, the inmate has been charged under part 1 of Article 34-104 of the RA Criminal Code. The conclusion of the investigation has been announced, and the criminal case has been sent to the prosecutor overseeing the legality of the investigation for approval and forwarding to court for indictment.
