Diplomatic Scandal: US Ambassador Leaves Without Farewell

According to the newspaper 'Iravunk', it is said that against the backdrop of warming relations with Russia, the authorities have begun to face serious problems with the Western vector. During the meeting between Prime Minister Pashinyan and the US Ambassador, a silent diplomatic scandal was recorded: the ambassador left in a rather British manner, without saying goodbye.

Relations are even more strained with the United Kingdom. Neither Armenia has an ambassador in the UK, nor does the UK have one in Armenia. Furthermore, a while ago, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who visited the UK, did not meet with the UK Foreign Secretary. He only had a meeting with the minister for European affairs.

Some explain this also by the soft repression policy of the authorities against Armen Sarkissian, who has quite warm relations with the royal family, which restricts his already limited powers. Incidentally, a previously scheduled meeting of Armen Sarkissian with the Supreme Spiritual Council was also canceled by the authorities, signaling that his presence there is unwelcome. With the upcoming constitutional changes, they may also bid him a British farewell.
