Lawyer Denied Access to Client Amid Tension Outside Sixth Division

A man has been detained by the police at the Sixth Division, but his lawyer Vahe Danielyan has not been allowed to enter. Danielyan reported this to Sputnik Armenia.

“My client was taken from his home this morning, and I still do not know why. His family members contacted me to protect his interests. I have been standing in front of the Sixth Division for over an hour, but they are not allowing me in,” he said.

According to the lawyer, the police explained to him that the detainee allegedly does not wish to utilize legal services. Danielyan emphasized that even if his client refuses legal assistance, he wants to enter and hear that directly himself.

He also noted that this is not the first time the Sixth Division has obstructed his work, but after an hour of persistent efforts, they eventually allow him to enter.

“There is no such issue in other places—defense attorneys are always allowed inside. I assume that in this case, they want to carry out all their actions and only then allow the lawyer in,” he stated. Danielyan mentioned that his client is not a well-known person.

The Office of the Human Rights Defender reported that, based on lawyer Vahe Danielyan's alert, a rapid response group from the Human Rights Defender's office visited the Sixth Division.

The police press service also announced that Danielyan's client has indicated he is refusing legal assistance.
