US Urges Turkey to 'Destroy or Get Rid of S-400 Systems'

A U.S. State Department official has urged Turkey to somehow abandon or simply destroy the S-400 air defense systems purchased from Russia, as reported by ermenihaber.

"Turkey can still return to the negotiating table. They know that for this they either need to destroy, return, or somehow get rid of the S-400s," the official stated.

The U.S. State Department official also mentioned that Turkey may still face sanctions under the CAATSA law (Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act). Moreover, he noted that there is no specific timeline for the imposition of sanctions. He reminded that the U.S. only imposed sanctions on China nine months after Beijing purchased Russian fighter jets.
