13 Families of Fallen and Deceased Soldiers in Shirak Province to Receive Housing Purchase Certificates

13 families of fallen and deceased soldiers in Shirak province will receive housing purchase certificates. The government made this decision a few days ago. This initiative is part of the Ministry of Defense’s housing assistance program for fallen, deceased, and disabled soldiers, which began in the 2000s. This program is not aimed at the homeless but rather at families in need of housing improvement.

There are 184 families on the waiting list in Shirak province. Among them, 35 are families of fallen or deceased soldiers. Currently, the housing improvement applications for 13 families have been approved.

Initially, priority was given according to the registration date, meaning that the sooner a family registered, the higher they ranked on the waiting list. Now, the criteria have changed. Priority for housing improvement is now given first to the families of fallen or deceased soldiers.

The new registration order has advanced the compensation queue for the Karapetyans. They were registered in 2008. Their son, Hovsep Karapetyan, was drafted into the army in 1998 and did not die in combat but passed away due to an illness contracted during service. Hovsep Karapetyan died 10 years after his discharge. Medical documents were sufficient for the family to be registered in the program.

His wife and two children currently live in an apartment that does not meet their space requirements. This justification allowed the Karapetyans to be included among the 13 families. Like the Karapetyans, many beneficiaries in the province are being offered one-room compensation by the Ministry of Defense.
