U.S. Government Support for Armenia Increased by 40% to Reach $60 Million
The U.S. Embassy reports that throughout 2019, government support from the U.S. to Armenia has continued to grow. This year, it amounts to $60 million, which is a 40% increase compared to the previous year.
This funding includes not only programs managed by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development but also initiatives from the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Department of Defense.
The U.S. government has utilized these funds to support democratic development in Armenia across many areas, particularly in combating corruption, security, energy, education, English language teaching, forestry services, human rights, civil society, and strengthening transparent and accountable government institutions, including law enforcement, justice, and legal systems.
“The United States has supported Armenia's democratic processes and institutional development for the past 27 years, and we do not intend to change that, especially now when democracy is stronger in Armenia than ever,” said U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracy. “For this reason, we are proud to report that this year's support totals more than $60 million.”
Since 1992, the United States has allocated more than $2 billion in support to improve the living conditions of the Armenian people and to aid efforts aimed at strengthening democratic, economic, and social governance.
