Illegal Logging Incident Recorded

The police continue to combat illegal logging, informing the public about each new incident recorded, which also serves as a call to vigilance.

On October 6, officers from the Dilijan division of the police, during a patrol on the Tbilisi highway, inspected a "UAZ" brand vehicle loaded with timber, suspecting it was transporting illegally harvested wood. The 65-year-old driver from the village of Haghartsin failed to present any documents regarding the timber and stated that he acquired it from the "Anagunnikner" area.

The vehicle, loaded with the timber, was moved to a designated secure area of the division. A professional inspection has been initiated.

Another vehicle of the same brand, also loaded with timber and belonging to another resident of Haghartsin, was checked by police on duty at a stationary post in the Dilijan mountain bends on the morning of October 7. The 42-year-old driver could not provide any documents proving the legality of the timber.

Similarly, this vehicle was transported to the secure area of the Dilijan police division. A professional inspection has been initiated as well. The extent of damage caused to nature is being verified. Materials are being prepared regarding these incidents.
