‘Zhamanak’: Official Promoted After Committing Physical Violence Against Businessman

‘Zhamanak’ newspaper reports: ‘Gegam Vanunyan, the head of the Bagratashen customs post, who recently came under media scrutiny for illegally failing to clear a businessman’s goods and for committing physical violence against him, has not only escaped accountability but has also received a promotion in recent days.

Vanunyan has been appointed as the head of the external economic activity customs operations monitoring department of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) Internal Security Department. Vanunyan’s preferential treatment is attributed to the fact that he is considered an associate of SRC head Davit Ananyan. As an SRC employee, he is not only engaged in business but also supplies goods directly to the SRC.

Gegam Vanunyan is personally the founder of ‘Made To Make’ LLC. Through his company, he supplies products to the SRC, SPFA, the metro, the Ministry of Defense, the Nuclear Power Plant, and other organizations.

Thus, it appears that the old customs practices remain relevant within the SRC. One can easily physically assault someone, go unpunished, and moreover, receive a promotion.’
