Armen Gevorgyan Sues MP and Lawyer from 'My Step' Faction
The former Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Armen Gevorgyan, has filed a lawsuit against Arusyak Julhakyan, an MP from the 'My Step' faction of the Armenian Parliament, and lawyer Mushegh Shushanian, according to reports from 'Haykakan Zhamanak'.
He demands that the defendants retract statements deemed defamatory and apologize publicly. Additionally, there is a demand for compensation. Furthermore, the plaintiff is seeking official acknowledgment of the violation of his presumption of innocence. This information has been obtained from the Judicial Information System.
The lawsuit was submitted on September 2 and has been assigned to Judge Artur Stepanyan at the Yerevan City Court of General Jurisdiction.
On August 7, Julhakyan and Shushanian held a press conference regarding a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights, which obligates Armenia to pay 1.6 million euros to Yuri Vardanian, who was deprived of property. Julhakyan stated that everything was carried out under the coordination of the head of the presidential administration, Armen Gevorgyan. Shushanian also mentioned that the process of massive violations of property rights of residents in the Center involved the highest state authorities of the time, specifically the administration of Robert Kocharyan.
During Robert Kocharyan's presidency, the state deprived Yuri Vardanian of his property located at 13 Buzandi Street, encompassing a total area of 1385 square meters, under the premise of public necessity.
