Istanbul Convention Will Not Be on the National Assembly's Agenda Soon: Makunts
This is the first official meeting of the faction after the holidays, said Lilit Makunts, the leader of the "My Step" faction, during a conversation with reporters regarding today's closed session of the faction.
"We will discuss the issues that will be on our agenda in the near future, the committees will present the work done, and proposals will be presented," she stated, outlining the agenda.
Regarding the postponement of discussions on the Istanbul Convention, Lilit Makunts mentioned, "At least if we recall the procedures that the convention must go through, it was expected that it would be just like this. Because if the ministry has sent it to the Venice Commission, time is required to receive a response from them, and then it must necessarily go through the Constitutional Court before it appears on the agenda of the National Assembly. Therefore, it was expected that it would not happen soon, and I was surprised at how or where the month of September was being circulated."
Referring to the exploitation of the Amulsar mine, the faction leader stated that the government would not make anti-state, unnational decisions. "The need for a new EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) is being studied in the Ministry of Environment, and we will see what the results will be," she added.
