The Case of Robert Kocharyan and Others Assigned to Judge Anna Danibekyan
The case of the former president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, and other former officials accused of overthrowing the constitutional order during the March 1 events has been assigned to Judge Anna Danibekyan of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, two months after a decision from the Court of Appeals. This was reported to NEWS.am by the press service of the Supreme Judicial Council.
It is noteworthy that Anna Danibekyan is the judge who examined the appeal by Kocharyan’s defense against the decision to impose a seizure on his property and recorded a violation of Kocharyan’s rights.
Recall that on June 20, Judge Armen Danielyan of the Court of Appeals decided to retreat to the deliberation room to make decisions on appeals without listening to objections from Kocharyan's defense. Five days later, Danielyan decided to remand Robert Kocharyan, who had been released on personal guarantee by former and current presidents of Artsakh, while canceling the decision of first-instance Judge Davit Grigoryan to suspend the proceedings against Kocharyan and others, and returned the case for a new examination.
The defendants in this case include the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan; former Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces and former Secretary-General of the CSTO, Yuri Khachaturov; former Minister of Defense, Seyran Ohanyan; and former Deputy Prime Minister, Armen Gevorgyan. Yuri Khachaturov and Seyran Ohanyan are accused of overthrowing the constitutional order, Robert Kocharyan of overthrowing the constitutional order and receiving a particularly large bribe, and Armen Gevorgyan of assisting in the overthrow of the constitutional order, receiving a particularly large bribe, and legalizing property obtained by criminal means. Currently, only Robert Kocharyan is in custody. Seyran Ohanyan and Armen Gevorgyan have been subjected to a signature not to leave as a preventive measure, while a bail has been chosen for Khachaturov.
