‘Hraparak’: The Only Person to Testify Against Oganovskyi is an Associate of Samvel Babayan, Nicknamed ‘Aferist’
‘Hraparak’ newspaper writes: “Despite the information that a political decision has been made to arrest the hero of Artsakh, Major General Samvel Karapetian (Oganovskyi), and that he would be ‘taken’ on Monday, he was not arrested yesterday.
The fact is that there is only one testimony against Oganovskyi, which contradicts all others, and it is highly questionable and unreliable.
It is worth noting that the BBC agency published an article stating that it has obtained the interrogation record of Samvel Karapetian. According to the preliminary investigation, Karapetian brought a group of 20 people under his command to Yerevan, who were stationed in the basement of the presidential residence during the events of March 1, 2008, and that this group fired at the protesters.
In reality, the Special Investigative Service has been investigating since last year who and how brought troops from Artsakh to Armenia, and is gathering witnesses.
In the summer of 2018, a sought-after witness was found, a resident of Askeran, a certain Kamo Mnatsakanyan, who had been wanted by Artsakh law enforcement. He was not a soldier, had not been in Yerevan during the events of March 1, but testified about what he ‘heard.’
He is among Samvel Babayan’s associates, nicknamed ‘Aferist’, although yesterday Babayan denied any connection with this individual.
In his testimony against Oganovskyi, he stated that he had not been in Yerevan and was in Artsakh, but had heard who participated in those events. His friend’s son, who had served in the army as a contract soldier, was also brought to Yerevan and was led by Oganovskyi.
Incidentally, in Artsakh, they are convinced that the Armenian authorities released Samvel Babayan from custody as a result of this deal: Babayan was released in June, and early in July, the aforementioned witness testified.”
