Former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev Charged with Murder

Former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev has been charged with murder and other particularly serious crimes. This was announced by Zamir Beishekeyev, head of the operational-investigative activity and investigative oversight department of the country’s Prosecutor General's Office, during a press conference.

“Atambayev has received notifications regarding several particularly serious crimes, including organizing mass unrest, murder, attempted murder, hostage-taking, and the use of violence against a representative of authority,” he stated. Furthermore, a freeze has been placed on the majority of Atambayev's assets.

Under Kyrgyz law, Atambayev faces the possibility of life imprisonment for these charges.
