Attempted Murder in Artik Penitentiary: Details from the Investigative Committee

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has launched a criminal case regarding an attempted murder by an inmate at a correctional facility, as announced by the Committee's Division of Information and Public Relations.

According to preliminary data, on May 19, 2019, at around 10:40 AM, one of the convicts at the Artik penitentiary pretended to feel unwell and requested assistance from the guard. Subsequently, he unexpectedly fled his cell and entered another inmate's cell in the same building, intending to take the latter's life with a sharp-edged tool. However, due to resistance from the guards, he was unable to carry out the crime.

The Investigative Committee has instituted criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 34-104 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.

The pre-investigation is ongoing, and measures are being taken to ensure an objective, complete, and multifaceted investigation of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
