Attempted Murder at Ararat Correctional Facility

The Shirak Regional Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case regarding an attempted murder by an inmate of a correctional facility.

According to preliminary data, on May 19, 2019, at around 10:40 AM, one of the convicts at the Ararat Correctional Facility feigned feeling unwell and requested assistance from the guard. Unexpectedly, he ran out of his cell and entered the cell of another inmate in the same building, intending to unlawfully deprive him of life. He attacked the victim with a cutting and piercing tool. However, due to the resistance of the guards, the inmate was prevented from completing the crime.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Shirak Regional Investigation Department under Part 1 of Article 34-104 of the RA Criminal Code.

The preliminary investigation is ongoing, and measures are being taken to ensure an objective, complete, and multifaceted examination of the circumstances of the incident.
