Turkey's Presidency Invites All Armenians to Visit Akhtamar Island
“The restored Akhtamar Church by the Turkish government (referring to the Church of the Holy Cross on Akhtamar Island) is a testament to the rich history and cultural diversity of our peoples. We invite all members of Armenian society to visit this world heritage monument,” stated Fahrettin Altun, head of the public relations department of the Turkish Presidency, on Twitter.
Notably, Altun emphasized in his statement that the church has been renovated by the Turkish government.
It is worth recalling that the Church of the Holy Cross was built between 915-921 by architect Manvel upon the order of King Gagik I of Vaspurakan.
