Recep Tayyip Erdogan Sends Letter to Aram Ateshian

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has sent a letter to the General Vicar of the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople, Aram Ateshian. According to Armenpress, in the letter, Erdogan again referred to the 1.5 million Armenians who fell victim to the genocide planned and executed by the Ottoman Empire as "victims of the First World War."

In the letter, Erdogan emphasized that he "pays tribute to the memory of Armenians who perished under difficult conditions during the First World War in the Ottoman Empire."

Despite ongoing pressures on national and religious minorities in Turkey, Erdogan stated that the security and happiness of the Armenian community in Turkey are very important to the country. He remarked that "Turkey will continue to support Armenians in resolving their issues."

Erdogan added that Armenians in Turkey, as equal citizens, play an essential role in the country’s social, political, and business life.
