Tell Our Prime Minister Not to Place Too Much Hope on Democratic Struggles: Ashotyan
Tell our Prime Minister not to place too much hope on democratic struggles. This was stated by the Vice President of the Republican Party of Armenia, Armen Ashotyan, on his Facebook page.
He specifically noted: “Yesterday, a meeting of the EU-Azerbaijan Cooperation Council was held in Brussels co-chaired by Mogherini and Mammadyarov, and the results should also be regarded with attention in Armenia.
1. As I have mentioned several times, a new EU-Azerbaijan agreement is being prepared, which, according to the parties, will be initialed during this European Commission's term. I emphasize that it is important for us to understand what formulation is given to the resolution of the Karabakh issue and whether it is in line with the agreement signed with Armenia. We are still waiting for a response from the Foreign Ministry.
2. As I predicted, the EU is softening its stance on human rights issues in Azerbaijan. Global interests are becoming even more important, so tell our Prime Minister not to place too much hope on democratic struggles.
3. The EU has responded positively to the recent meeting between Pashinyan and Aliyev and has called for the rapid implementation of the agreements reached there regarding humanitarian issues and preparing the population for peace. We agree that we have clear questions for the Prime Minister regarding what was specifically agreed upon in Vienna.
4. The issue of supplying Azerbaijani gas to the EU remains in the spotlight. I would like to remind that this has been planned since 2020 and will create problems for Armenia, especially in Southern Europe and the Balkans.
Unfortunately, given the current pace and low quality of work, Armenia may lose the advantage it had in November 2017. To avoid this, it is necessary to move towards real reforms, to activate diplomatic work, including parliamentary efforts.”
