Nikol Pashinyan Presents Details of Meeting with Aliyev

“I will assess this meeting positively, and I hope President Aliyev will also evaluate it positively. However, I want to emphasize that when I evaluate the meeting as positive, it does not imply a victory for one side or a defeat for the other. This is very important. People think that when two individuals meet, there must be a winner and a loser. This conversation has also occurred after my previous meetings with Aliyev,” said Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a recent meeting with the Armenian community in Vienna, adding that a dialogue has begun, and naturally, each side has its perceptions in this dialogue.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the conflict has very deep roots.

“Naturally, we understand that we are not dealing with a simple issue. This is a very complex matter; it is a serious question. It is important to finally vocalize what we are discussing, understand that there is nothing wrong with discussing things. Can we make efforts to ensure stability along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and in the line of contact? Can we ensure that the people live normal lives, that there is peace in the border communities, and that people can engage in agriculture without worrying about being harmed by snipers? Can we think about what humanitarian aspects we can discuss now, for instance, on both sides there are residents of two countries who can live in peace?

“It is clear that each of us has our position, and we are all deeply convinced of our views. But we must understand what is logical in the other's reasoning from our perspective or their perspective, or what seems illogical. I do not know what assessment President Aliyev has regarding our meeting, but I hope it will be positive,” he noted.
