Central Bank Explains 6000% Increase in Pawnshop State Fees
For several hours now, representatives from pawnshops and currency exchange points have gathered in front of the Government building, protesting against the draft law "On Amendments and Additions to the Law on State Duties in the Republic of Armenia."
The draft proposes to increase the state fees for these sectors by 60 times, approximately 6000%, whereby the state fee for pawnshops will be set at 6,000,000 AMD instead of the current 100,000 AMD, and for currency exchange points, it will rise from 50,000 to 3,000,000 AMD.
AuroraNews reached out to Harut Kbeyan, the spokesperson of the Central Bank, for clarification.
Kbeyan emphasized in our conversation that this is still just a draft, and changes could be made to it.
According to the Central Bank spokesperson, the changes aim to ensure financial stability.
