Thousands of citizens have taken to the streets with the Catalan flag. Reports indicate that among the protesters, besides the Catalan flag, flags from other countries are also visible, most notably that of Great Britain. According to local journalists, it is expected that the protests will see participation from 200,000 people.
Participants in the general strike, who aim to exit Spain, have blocked major roads and railways.
During the day, clashes between protesters and law enforcement have resulted in injuries to 28 citizens, of whom 12 are police officers.
