Soldier Dies from Gunshot Wound on New Year's Eve; MoD and Investigative Committee Remain Silent

According to Tert.am, a contractor soldier of the Ministry of Defense, Edgar Grigoryan, died from a gunshot wound on New Year's Eve. However, neither the Ministry of Defense nor the Investigative Committee of Armenia has provided any information regarding the incident, and no official statement has been posted on their websites.

In connection with this, the media outlet has sent written inquiries to the relevant authorities for clarification and information.

In response to Tert.am's questions about why the Ministry of Defense did not inform about the incident and the circumstances surrounding the soldier's death, they stated: “On January 1, 2019, around 04:00, a contractor soldier of military unit N of the Ministry of Defense, Edgar Eduard Grigoryan, was found with a gunshot wound to the chest at the safeguard area of the combat position. He was transported to Meghri Medical Center where he died at 08:10.”

The Ministry has also reported that a criminal case has been opened at the Investigative Committee under part 1 of Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, concerning incitement to suicide.
