Inevitability of Road Icing: Situation on Armenian Highways
The Roads Department Foundation has announced that during snowfall, roads can be cleared when the snow thickness is more than 3-4 cm. Following the clearing, treatment with salt and sand is conducted. In prolonged periods of snowfall, the process occurs regularly.
When the temperature drops below -7°C, salt loses its ability to induce melting, and the salt-sand mixture takes longer to be effective. At temperatures of -7°C and lower, sand and gravel are utilized, which increases the traction of vehicle tires on the road surface. In extremely low temperatures, it is impossible to prevent road icing.
Drivers are advised to be extra vigilant and to travel exclusively with winter tires. Drive slowly, maintain a greater distance from the vehicle in front, and do not obstruct the work of contractor organizations conducting winter maintenance, following all provided instructions.
