US-Venezuela Negotiations Stalemated Due to Multiple Reasons: Media
The negotiations between the Trump administration and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro have reached a stalemate due to three main issues, reports the Miami Herald, citing sources.
According to one source, Maduro has requested a "full and comprehensive amnesty."
"Secondly, they have requested to maintain control over the armed forces," the source added. The third issue revolves around regime change in Venezuela. Washington has insisted on Maduro's immediate resignation, but Caracas has rejected this.
Just the day before, CNN reported that Maduro had acknowledged the possibility of his resignation. According to the broadcaster, some American officials view the scenario proposed by the Venezuelan leader as a potential way out of the crisis, but the White House has decided to push for Maduro's immediate resignation.
CNN's sources also noted that Maduro and his associates have communicated through various channels with the White House and are now discussing what kind of cooperation may be anticipated between the two countries.
